Kaduna Road Projects Win Residents’ Praise as Government Promises Lasting Infrastructure

Residents of Romi and other benefiting communities in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State are celebrating a wave of new road construction, calling it long-awaited relief after years of poor transport links and seasonal flooding. The Kaduna road projects, they say, are already changing how people move, trade, and access essential services in the area.

During an inspection tour, the Managing Director of the Kaduna Roads Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, assured residents that the roads were being built to durable standards and expressed confidence that most of the ongoing Kaduna road projects would be completed before the rainy season winds down.

Community member Nuhu Shagaya described the works as people-focused, noting that better roads would ease the movement of farm produce and improve access to schools, markets, and healthcare facilities. He recalled years of hardship caused by poor roads and flooding, but still appealed for urgent attention to erosion control and drainage in nearby residential areas.

Religious and community leaders echoed the sentiment. Rev. Stephen Ibrahim, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Romi Chapter, praised the state governor for fulfilling a promise many had stopped expecting to see delivered, saying the quality of work so far reflects genuine commitment. Youth leader Michael Yahya added that decades of neglect by previous administrations had finally given way to visible progress, one he believes will spur economic growth and create jobs for young people.

Rev. Adam Bello, who chairs the community committee liaising with the contractor, called the development transformational for Romi, a community he says has long been overlooked despite sitting within the Kaduna metropolis. Resident Mercy Bulus also thanked the state government, saying smoother roads would make daily business and transportation far easier.

While optimism runs high, residents are clear that lasting infrastructure means more than tarred roads. Their calls for improved drainage and erosion control point to a broader concern that will likely shape how the state’s ongoing works are ultimately judged.
