Charles arrives with an extensive honours list built up across her career, and she was part of England’s triumphant run to the Euro 2025 title, where she scored a penalty in the shootout win over Spain in the final. She was also named in the PFA WSL Team of the Year for the 2023/24 season. At City, she will wear the number 21 shirt, becoming the fifth player to do so during the club’s professional era.
Speaking on the move, Charles said she felt the club’s culture and playing style were a natural fit, pointing to City’s recent success and what she sees the team building under Jeglertz. Director of Football Therese Sjögren echoed that sentiment, framing the signing as a major addition following City’s WSL and FA Cup double last season, and suggesting Charles’ peak years are still ahead of her.
Career path: Charles came through Liverpool’s academy, making her senior debut at 16 in 2016. Chelsea signed her in 2020 following Liverpool’s relegation, initially deploying her in attacking positions before she established herself as a first-choice left-back. She started the 2021 Champions League final as Chelsea’s youngest player on the day, and went on to win the domestic treble that season, one of five WSL titles and four FA Cups she collected in west London.
Her move to Manchester joins City’s push to build on last season’s WSL and FA Cup double, adding a player entering what the club describes as her peak years.
